Chabahar Friday prayers leader:

Attack on Molavi Gorgij exposed terrorists’ anger at people’s unity

The Friday prayers leader of Iran’s southeastern city of Chabahar has condemned the assassination of Sunni cleric Molavi Yousuf Gorgij, saying the incident exposed the terrorists’ anger at the unity of the people in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi described the assassination as another indication of terrorist groups’ hostility toward unity and solidarity among the people of the province.

He said Gorgij was a respected and compassionate Sunni scholar who had consistently stressed the importance of preserving unity, brotherhood and solidarity among Muslims.

He said Gorgij had condemned a terrorist attack in Saravan and taken a firm stance against violent actions by the enemies, but “the treacherous enemy,” driven by anger, assassinated the cleric later that same day.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Mousavi said those who plan and direct such crimes lack the courage to confront the people directly and instead remain in hiding while hiring misguided individuals to shed the blood of innocent people and religious figures.

He stressed that the main objective of the enemies behind such acts is to create division between Shia and Sunni Muslims.

“The enemies should know that the blood of the martyrs of such incidents will not divide the people; rather, it will bring Shia and Sunni Muslims closer together and strengthen their unity more than before,” the cleric said.

The Chabahar Friday prayers leader stressed that the people of Sistan and Baluchestan remain vigilant against enemy plots and will not allow terrorist and criminal acts to undermine the unity and brotherhood prevailing in the region.
