Dr. Ouedraogo Noufo, a university professor from Burkina Faso, on the sidelines of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, spoke about the role of the martyred leader's unity-oriented thought, the impact of colonialism on creating divisions among Muslims, and the necessity of convergence among Islamic countries to confront the challenges of the Islamic world.
Referring to the conditions of African countries and Burkina Faso's experience with French colonialism, he emphasized the necessity of utilizing the capacity of Islamic unity and cooperation among Muslim countries to achieve power and progress. The text of this interview follows:
What role has the leadership and thought of the martyred leader Imam Khamenei played in strengthening Muslims' belonging to the Islamic Ummah and unity among them?
In this blessed week and these days known as Islamic Unity Week, much has been said about the martyred leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, and his unity-oriented thought.
It can be briefly said that he was a great personality, and his call to Islamic unity had a positive impact on the Islamic Ummah.
His call to Islamic unity was not a call to fulfill personal interests, but a call to bring Muslims together and create a power that would enable them to stand against all forms of violence and enmity.
The region faces numerous challenges, and Burkina Faso was for years a colony of France. How has colonialism exploited the creation of sedition and religious divisions among Islamic countries, especially African countries?
As we know, colonized countries are usually influenced by colonialist thoughts – thoughts that always try to secure the interests of the colonizers more than the interests of the people of those countries.
After achieving independence, Burkina Faso began efforts for liberation and freedom and was positively influenced by Islamic countries and their thoughts.
We greatly benefit from the thoughts of the martyred leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on unity and Islamic issues in general, and we hope to be able to use these thoughts more than ever.
What is your message at this conference and for the region?
I have participated in this conference for the first time and was very happy to attend, because I learned many matters and issues from it.
My message is that I ask all Muslims to unite and strive hand in hand for the progress and attainment of greater power for Muslims.
I also ask Islamic countries to learn from the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the enemy, because Iran is a powerful and Islamic country that works for Islam and all Muslims.
A clear example of what we are witnessing these days is that Iran has stood against the enemies almost alone. Iran's defense of these countries or of Muslims is not a defense of Iran, but a defense of Muslims.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, as you mentioned, has changed the equations of power in the world. How can Islamic countries use this opportunity and confront the challenges and global arrogance?
Benefiting from this great power of Iran requires direct cooperation and standing by its side, and this opportunity should not be lost.
What Iran has done these days can be said to be an action that all Islamic countries should have taken; but Iran stood against the enemy alone.
Therefore, anyone who wanted to take such an action but was unable for any reason should use this opportunity and stand by Iran in confronting the enemy.
