Mohammad Khalil Awang, a member of the Islamic Party of Malaysia, on the sidelines of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, in an interview with the Taghrib News Agency (TNA), stated that the impact of the martyred Ayatollah Khamenei's views on confronting global arrogance and Zionism has been very extensive.
He said: "He sacrificed himself not only for the Iranian people, but for the Islamic Ummah. This influence is very widespread among Muslims in the Islamic world and even globally."
Awang, referring to the policies of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) in resolving differences to reduce tensions among Islamic countries, said: "The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) united the Arab tribes and also created unity between the Muhajirun and the Ansar. This is a very great lesson for Muslims in the current situation, because we see that Muslims are not united."
He noted that we celebrate the birth of Muhammad (PBUH) every year, but we must also remember the message of the unity of the Islamic Ummah.
The necessity of strengthening unity to confront the common enemy
The member of the Islamic Party of Malaysia further stated that even if we cannot achieve unity in terms of race, tribes, and the like, we must unite on principles.
He said: "There are several Islamic principles on the basis of which we must stand together, despite differences in race, language, and other matters. One of these principles is that we must stand against a common enemy. Currently, the enemy of the Islamic Ummah is Zionism and Western imperialism. Therefore, we Muslims, even if we belong to different denominations, must unite to confront the common enemy."
Regarding the support of the Islamic world for Palestinian rights and the establishment of a Palestinian state, he said: "The most important issue is to unite the Islamic Ummah. We know that the leaders of Muslim countries are not united. But the Islamic Ummah is united. For example, when we look at Arab countries, especially the Gulf countries, their leaders are not united with each other, but the people – that is, the Ummah – are united on the Palestinian issue."
He added: "We are in a very important time, because we are witnessing a situation we have never seen before, especially when we see non-Muslims in America, Europe, and other regions, even in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia, seeing and becoming aware of the oppression of Zionism and Israel against the Palestinian people."
In conclusion, Awang noted: "This is the first time such a thing is happening, and such a situation has never existed before. Therefore, it is very important that first the people are united, and then we unite the governments and countries."
