Islamic Unity and Palestine: Justice as the Pillar of Regional Stability
Israeli regime aggression and occupation continue to target the war-ravaged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. Despite a ceasefire in effect in Gaza, more strikes are launched against Palestinians even beyond the so-called Yellow Line. In the occupied West Bank also, the regime has triggered reactions by recent measures to occupy the lands under Palestinian control.
In an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA), Dr. Abdullah, a scholar of international law and Middle East affairs from Indonesia, underscored the necessity of Islamic unity and international accountability in confrontation with Israeli occupation policies.
Referring to the repeated incursions by settlers and Israeli officials into Al-Aqsa Mosque, Dr. Abdullah described these actions as a clear violation of the historical and legal status quo and contrary to international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention. He warned that such provocations not only escalate immediate tensions but also risk transforming a political conflict into a wider religious confrontation, threatening regional stability.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, he stressed that the humanitarian crisis cannot be separated from the structural realities of occupation and blockade.
He emphasized that ensuring immediate humanitarian access, enforcing ceasefire commitments, and pursuing accountability through international legal mechanisms are essential steps toward preventing further deterioration. According to him, sustainable peace requires addressing the root causes of injustice rather than merely managing its consequences.
On recent measures to expand control over Palestinian lands in the West Bank, Dr. Abdullah noted that settlement expansion and territorial acquisition by force are inconsistent with established principles of international law.
He asserted that the international community bears responsibility not to legitimize unlawful situations and must adopt effective political and economic measures to prevent the entrenchment of inequality and fragmentation.
Highlighting the significance of Quds Day, established by the late founder of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979, he stated that the occasion has evolved from symbolic solidarity into a broader call for justice rooted in international law and human dignity. He added that today it reflects not only Muslim unity but also growing global awareness regarding equality and anti-colonial justice.
Dr. Abdullah concluded that lasting peace in the region depends on the recognition of Palestinian national rights, an end to occupation policies, and sustained international engagement grounded in legality and justice. He emphasized that stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved through domination, but through respect for equal rights and adherence to the international norms.
