Sunni Cleric: Division Is a Greater Calamity Than Polytheism

13 Sep 2025 - 17:30

Iran Leads Islamic Unity Against Zionist

In this heartfelt interview, Mamusta Mohammadi described division as a calamity more destructive than polytheism, citing verses from the Holy Qur’an and authentic narrations from both Sunni and Shia traditions.
He emphasized the importance of a united Islamic Ummah and praised the Islamic Republic of Iran for its pioneering role in promoting unity through the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.
Quoting the Qur’anic verse, “Hold fast to the rope of Allah, all of you together, and do not become divided”, and the Prophet’s famous hadith comparing believers to a single body, he stressed that unity and compassion are core tenets of Islam. He also referenced the story of Moses and Aaron (peace be upon them) to illustrate that the consequences of division can be more severe than idolatry.
Iran’s Role in Promoting Unity
Mamusta Mohammadi highlighted Iran’s consistent efforts since the victory of the Islamic Revolution to foster unity among Muslims. He pointed to national and regional conferences held during Unity Week, which bring together scholars and thinkers from various Islamic denominations. These initiatives, he said, have awakened and empowered religious leaders and intellectuals across the Muslim world.
He emphasized that shared Islamic identity—across social, political, cultural, economic, and even military domains—is essential for forming a unified Ummah.
Challenges to Unity
The Sunni cleric identified extremist factions within both Sunni and Shia communities as the greatest obstacles to unity. These groups, he warned, exploit mass media and satellite networks to incite sectarian conflict. He said intelligence agencies such as Mossad and global hegemonic powers are backing these divisive movements under the guise of religious discourse.
In contrast, he praised the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought as a powerful and effective platform that annually brings together scholars and elites from across the Islamic world to advance unity.
Strategic Vision and the Second Phase of the Revolution
Mamusta Mohammadi referred to the “Second Phase of the Revolution” statement issued by Iran’s Supreme Leader, which underscores the vital role of Sunni Muslims in shaping the future of the Islamic Republic. He noted that recent appointments of Sunni officials to key executive positions reflect Iran’s serious commitment to inclusive unity.
Call to Action
In closing, Mamusta Mohammadi urged the Forum to invest more in young scholars—those with energy, strategic insight, and innovative ideas. He believes this will enrich Unity Week programs and resonate more deeply with the younger generation.
He concluded by extending congratulations on Unity Week and praying for dignity and success for Muslims around the world.
