Sunni Cleric: Only a United Islamic Ummah Can Confront Colonialism and Tyranny

11 Sep 2025 - 16:40

In an interview marking Unity Week, he described unity as a central pillar of Islamic teachings repeatedly emphasized by the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Firoozi said that throughout Islamic history, religious scholars have consistently urged Muslims to close ranks in the face of aggressors, warning that division inevitably leads to defeat. He pointed to the current situation in Gaza as a clear example, accusing Israel of aggression and the United States of backing it. Without unity, he said, Muslim states will remain vulnerable; with unity, victory is assured.
Highlighting the role of youth in West Asia, Firoozi argued that overcoming minor jurisprudential and sectarian disputes, and rallying around the Qur’an and the Prophet’s guidance, would empower them to resist oppression. He cautioned that ignoring the injustices inflicted on Muslims risks demoralizing the younger generation.
He called for a return to the principles of what he termed a “modern Islamic civilization,” supported by clerics, preachers, and scholars who can inspire and inform the public. With many capable and committed individuals in the Muslim world, Firoozi said, setting aside internal disputes and adhering to the Prophet’s teachings would ensure the Ummah’s success.
