Malaysian thinker urges Islamic countries to reconnect with prophetic teachings

9 Sep 2025 - 17:49

Muhammad Azmi Abdul Hamid, President of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization (MAPIM), terms returning to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the most vital responsibility for Muslim nations.

In an exclusive interview with Taghrib News Agency (TNA) on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, Azmi Abdul Hamid said that the Prophet’s teachings and life offer a timeless blueprint for global harmony and prosperity.

“These values are not confined to any particular era or geography,” he said. “They are universal and can benefit all of humanity.”

He praised Iran’s commitment to Islamic unity, highlighting the country’s annual hosting of the International Islamic Unity Conference.

Iran remains the only nation that actively and sincerely pursues the goal of uniting the Muslim Ummah, he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Azmi Abdul Hamid criticized certain Muslim governments for prioritizing national and economic interests over collective unity. “Those countries are aligning with Western powers at the expense of broader Islamic solidarity.”

Malaysian expert strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities in the Gaza Strip, describing it as genocide against defenseless civilians.

He called on all Muslim countries to take concrete action to put an end to the Israeli regime’s attacks against Gazans.

At least 64,605 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, as six more people died of starvation in the besieged Strip.

The 39th Islamic Unity Conference entitled ‘1500th Birth Anniversary of Prophet of Mercy and Islamic Ummah’ is underway in the Iranian capital Tehran on September 8-10, 2025.
