Ahmed el-Darzi, in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) said the most important translation for the arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the former minister of military affairs, Yoav Gallant, is an emphasis on the extent of the political developments in the international arena.
He said, “A decade ago we were witness to the US crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan none of which moved the so-called international community.”
He noted, “The other translation for the issuance of the arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Gallant is highlighting the new international polarizations and the beginning of a confrontation with the western crimes of genocide and starvation as followed by the Israeli forces in the besieged Gaza Strip.”
El-Darzi added,” The west is not able anymore to evade its crimes as it did in the past.”
The Syrian analyst continued,” To be able to veto the anti-Israeli resolutions of the UNSC will never secure the criminals from prosecution even in the long run” adding that,”The time for political and legal punishment will come.”
Regarding the approach of the European countries on the ICC arrest warrant, he said,” The European countries are not decision makers and they are either staunch followers of the United States or, like Spain and Italy, oppose the European Union polices though they are unable to oppose the general approach of the EU countries. Some other countries like Germany and France, mainly supportive of the US policies, dominate other European members.”
El-Darzi added that,” European countries are aware of the US backtracking in front of the China, Russia advancement and of the increasing role of the resistance as a key power in West Asia.”
He said,” The third reason is the incidents indicating a domestic dispute in the US following the victory of “America First” movement represented by Donald Trump.”
He said,” The reasons for US rejection of the ICC arrest warrant are that the decision by the ICC would implicitly sentence Washington of complicity in Israeli crimes in Gaza due to the military or financial support for the regime and also would embolden other countries to try Israeli criminals.”
He said,” To admit the ICC arrest warrant by the US means its submission to the international developments that are not in the interests of Washington.”
When asked on the reasons why the US, despite the media prospects for a ceasefire, does not admit an end to the war, he referred to the US concerns of a failure for Israel following a ceasefire that maintains the conditions of resistance and not those of the occupying regime.
The Syrian analyst called the ICC arrest warrant for Israeli officials as an opportunity for the Arab and Islamic countries that shows the incapability of the west and its continuation of the path it took after the cold war.
