The holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) has been cladded in black ahead of the mourning month of Muharram which marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). Imam Hussein (AS) together with 72 of his household members and close companions were martyred in the battle of Karbala fighting the tyrant ruler of the time, Yazid ibn Muawiyyah.
