Role of Youth in Islamic Revolution and Their Ongoing Influence in Iran
The Islamic Revolution of 1979 was not only a historical turning point for Iran but also a movement deeply driven by its youth. Young Iranians played a pivotal role in the revolution’s success, demonstrating immense bravery, resilience, and faith in the principles of Islam and independence from foreign influence. Their sacrifices continue to shape the policies and direction of the Islamic Republic today.

Youths in Islamic Revolution

The young generation was at the heart of the revolution, engaging in protests, organizing underground resistance, and spreading the revolutionary message. Many university students, scholars, and ordinary youths took part in demonstrations against the Pahlavi regime, enduring brutal crackdowns. Their efforts were instrumental in dismantling the monarchy and establishing the Islamic Republic under the leadership of Imam Khomeini.

Figures like Mohammad Hossein Fahmideh, a 13-year-old boy who sacrificed his life in the Iran-Iraq War, symbolizes the commitment of Iranian youth to defending their homeland and the values of the revolution. Other young revolutionaries fought for the establishment of a government based on Islamic principles, rejecting Western imperialism and domestic tyranny.

The Role of Young Martyrs in Defending the Revolution

Beyond the revolution, the youth continued to safeguard Iran’s sovereignty in the Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988). Many young soldiers voluntarily joined the frontlines, embracing martyrdom for their country. Some notable martyrs include:

Ali Akbar Shiroudi, captain of super Cobra pilot of Havanirooz who played a crucial role in defending Iran’s airspace, Ahmad Kazemi, commander of the 8‌th Najaf Ashraf Division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Abbas Babaei, an influential pilot and brigadier-general in the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force during Iran-Iraq war.

These individuals, along with thousands of unnamed martyrs, solidified the Islamic Republic’s foundation.

Young Iranians Today

In modern Iran, youth continue to play a significant role in politics, science, military, and social movements that align with the government’s vision. The Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of youth in the Islamic Republic, encouraging them to take part in technological advancements, military defense, and cultural preservation.

Iranian youth actively participate in organizations such as Basij, which works to protect national security and promote Islamic values. The government's initiatives, including scientific research programs and military training, aim to equip the new generation with the skills needed to defend Iran against external threats. Many young scholars contribute to Iran’s progress in nuclear science, artificial intelligence, and military technology.

The youths in Iran have been and continue to be the backbone of the Islamic Republic. Their sacrifices during the revolution and the Iran-Iraq War secured Iran’s independence and sovereignty. Today, young Iranians remain committed to the principles of the revolution, actively contributing to national development and security. Their unwavering dedication ensures that the Islamic Republic remains strong against external and internal challenges.
