Each year, the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought mounts unity conference during Unity Week so as to promote bonds of fraternity among Muslim nations, providing them with a proper ground to exchange thier views to brave the standing setbacks in the World of Islam.
The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) was born on the 17th day of the lunar calendar month of Rabi-ul-Awwal in 570 CE, while according to the Sunni narrative, the birth date of the Prophet (PBUH) falls on Rabi-ul-Awwal 12. As per a call made by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, the week in between the two dates is marked each year as “the Islamic Unity Week” to promote convergence among Muslims.
Organizing unity conference these days can, along with the declaration of global solidarity, symbolize the unity and integrity of Muslims.
The purpose of the conference is providing a proper situation for promoting unity and solidarity of the World of Islam and using the proposals offered by the scholars and thinkers in order to bring their scientific and cultural views in jurisprudence and discourse arenas. The conference also studies the standing setbacks Muslims face with so as to come up in the long run with appropriate roadmaps and solutions.
Some 31 years ago with the cooperation of Shiite and Sunni clerics, the Islamic unity conference was organized so as to boost unity in the World of Islam; unity and rapproachement can be counted as the major concerns for many a cleric, thinker and leading Muslim intellectual worldwide.
Over the past thirty years, hundreds of thinkers, distinguished Muslim figures, ministers from Islamic countries, scholars, muftis, university professors and well-known faces from various scientific and cultural associations partook the event and along with the Iranian Shiite and Sunni scholars gave speech and submitted articles expressing their views in different edition of the international event.
As the representatives of the Islamic society, the guests in this conference, mounted every year during the week of unity, proclaim their global solidarity declaring their adherence to the divine religion of Islam. They review the problems existing in the World of Islam and in the long run offer their proposals, views and research findings.
It is noteworthy that participants and in particular foreign guests are so willing to attend these gatherings exchanging their views with other thinkers for sorting out the standing problems.
Up untill the year 1369, the trustee of the unity Conference, was the Islamic Promotion Organization which held the first to fourth editions of the gathering; since then, and by the establishment of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought this duty he been given to Iran top unity center.
In the conferences of unity mounted in previous years, various issued effective in promoting unity have been studied and discussed. Some of the subjects discuss to date can be named as follows:
The Islamic Unity; Imam Khomeini and Islamic Unity; the achievements of Islamic unity; the approximation between Islamic religions; the role of intellectual understanding in the approximation of Islamic religions; the principles of approximation, the Qur'an and Sunnah; Government from the Point of View of Islamic Religions; Essential Characteristics of Islam; Islam and the Islamic Ummah in the Next Century; Islamic Ummah; Sufferings and Dreams; Status of Household of Muhammad Prophet (PBUH) in Islam and Ummah; Adherence to the Principles and Meeting the Requirements in the Islamic Jurisprudence; Universalism of Islam and the Islamic Awakening, Future Perspectives; Approximation Strategy of the Islamic Religions; Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Lifestyle; Islamic Ummah: From Religious variety to Sectarianism; Ideological and Practical Approaches to the Approximation of Islamic Religions; Examination of the Crises in the Islamic World and Offering Roadmaps for Putting an End to Them.
One of the programs advanced in the unity conference is introducing leading figures and books released in the realm of unity; in addition, holding specialized commissions centered on different topics was always high on the agenda. In these commissions all scholars and intellectuals with different religions and from different parts of the World of Islam gather together. The attendees sit at talks and come up with solutions for solving challenges the World of Islam wrestles with.
Every year, some reports and papers are presented at the unity conference; summaries of the debates in each commission are also offered and the objectives are set through this way for the next year's edition.
Last year the 30th International Islamic Unity Conference under the banner of "Unity and necessity of dealing with Takfiri groups" went underway for three days in Iranian capital with the participation of hundreds of domestic and foreign guests, prominent scholars and religious figures from various Muslim countries. The Implementation of Islamic Unity Diplomacy was of the achievements gained in this regard.
The World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought is to mount the 31st edition of international Islamic Unity Conference entitled "Unity and Requirements of Modern Islamic Civilization" in December 5-7, 2017.
The coming conference is to be centered on the following areas:
The Islamic Revival and civilization; the experiences of Islamic revivals; the role of the new Islamic civilization in the unity of the Ummah; the Holy Qur'an and the lifestyle of the Prophet (PBUH) and his Household in the creation of a new Islamic civilization; Factors behind the Ups and Downs of Modern Islamic Civilization; Establishment of Modern Islamic Civilization in Accordance with Current Needs; Role of Seminaries, Universities, Research Centers and Media in the Development of Modern Islamic Civilization; Identification of Barriers to the Emergence of Modern Islamic Civilization and the Ways of Coping with it.
Features of Modern Islamic Civilization; Islamic civilization as a Strategy to Overcome Divisions among Muslims; Necessities and Ways of Reviving Modern Islamic Civilization in the International System of Today and Other Issues Related to the Concept of Modern Islamic Civilization.
