Every year during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan in which Muslims fast particular nights are marked as Laylat ul-Qadr or the nights of honor. Iranians have special traditions for performing Laylat ul-Qadr ceremonies.

The rituals known as Ehya include praying until dawn and demanding God’s forgiveness. Donations pour in as charity funds become more active. Serving the prayers is also considered as a matter of pride and a credit for the servants who usually consist of reputable people in the neighborhood.
The reward of worship in this night is believed to be more than a thousand months, an equivalent to a person’s lifetime. Muslims consider the nights of Qadr as one of the holiest and most blessed occasions of the year when sins are forgiven and wishes are granted.

According to Islam it was during these nights when the first divine revelations came to Prophet Mohammad. The first night of Qadr also marks a sad occasion for Shiite Muslims in which their first Imam, Ali Ibn Abitaleb was assassinated by a sword attack during morning prayers. He became a Martyr two days later.
