Parliament, ministry to boost defense capabilities

The Tuesday evening meeting of Iran's parliament national security and foreign policy commission was about the meeting of MPs with defense ministry officials.

“We had a joint meeting with defense minister, deputy defense minister, and Mr. Ghandehari at the headquarter of defense ministry on Tueday,” recounted Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission spokesman Seyed Hossein Naghavi Hosseini in the evening meeting of the commission at the Iranian parliament.

Welcoming defense minister’s representative at the meeting, Mr. Naghavi offered his congratulation on the recent victory of uprooting ISIL in Syria and Iraq.

“Cementing the defense capabilities of our country has always been and will be the top objective of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to ensure that no serious threat is posed against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added.

Mr. Naghavi told his fellow law-makers at National Security and Foreign Policy Commission that during the meeting with Defense Minister, Major General Amir Hatami briefed the parliamentary delegation about the measures undertaken by the ministry in providing help to quake hit Iranians of Nov. 12 tremor of Kermanshah.

“Thank God our defense status is at the level that our enemies no longer boast about their military option on table because our military power is at a level which will strongly contain any threat within and beyond the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Mr. Naghavi quoted defense minister saying so.

“Mr. Hatami named the US as the permanent enemy of the Iranian ation and asked the parliament to keep supporting defense sector in the next annual budget of the country,” the MP reported.

“As the commission has done its best so far, it is expected to have 5% of the defense budget from the yearly state budget,” the legislator quoted Maj. Gen. Hatami.
