Iranian Russian scholars denounce terrorists’ misuse of religious beliefs

High ranking religious boards from Islamic republic of Iran and Russia have issued statement at the end of two-day meeting in Moscow denouncing terrorist use of religious beliefs for expanding injustice and violence in the world.

Tenth biannual interfaith meeting between Islam and Russian Orthodox Church ended its two day work on dialogue and cooperation between religions and means to achieve sustained peace rebuking terrorist groups for misusing religious beliefs to achieve their heinous ends, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Participants in the event discussed the meaning of sustained and just peace based on Bible and Qur’an and detailed their views on interfaith dialogue, cultural cooperation to prevent extremism as well as supporting the religious minorities.
 
Both sides also stressed necessity of interfaith dialogues as a bridge between different religions highlighting the values of religious cooperation and exchange of experiences in practice.
 
The final statement of the meeting notes,” Both sides agree that common moral values are the main bases for cooperation between Islam and Orthodox Church in line with prevalence of justice and peace.”
 
Participants in this meeting also denounced misuse of religious beliefs for legalization of injustice and violence.
 
Extremist threats under the cover of religious principles, undermining friendly backgrounds between Muslims and Christians, expansion of Islamophobia and anti-Islamic movements in the west in an attempt to limit religious beliefs were rejected in this final statement.
 
Also the statement counted the importance of religious heritage and holy sites, expression of concern for destruction of sacred places in the Middle East, desecration of Christian and Islamic sanctities, particularly those in Iraq and Syria as the main axes of the meeting.
 
Tenth interfaith meeting of Islam and Orthodox Christianity demanded Muslim and Christian communities to support religious minorities stressing the key role of scientific and cultural cooperation to promote dialogues, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among Muslims and Christians.
 
Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, senior advisor of the Supreme Leader in Muslim World affairs, Ayatollah Ahmad Beheshti, university professor, Hujjat-ul-Islam Akbari Jeddi, head of the Islamic Center of Moscow, Mohsen Esmaeeli, member of Iran’s Assembly of experts were among the Iranian visiting board.
 
It has been scheduled that the Iranian capital of Tehran will host 11th round of the interfaith meetings between Islam and Russia’s Orthodox Christianity.
