Iranian 1st Vice-President Es'hagh Jahanigiri said on Sat. that the country needs the experiences of other countries across the world if it wants to improve its economic conditions.

Speaking at the second Iran’s Economy Conference currently underway in Tehran, Es'hagh Jahanigiri said that “whenever the enemies of the Iranian nation want to threaten Iran, they target our economy by threatening us with economic sanctions. This shows the fact that the economy needs more attention and it must be taken more seriously [to foil enemy's plots].”
Pointing out that Iran started its development plans in the 1960s, he added “Iran, along with some countries in East Asia and Latin America, began the development path, but despite the fact that Iran's resources were richer than some of those countries, today in comparison we are far behind in terms of progress and development.”
Later in his speech, he referred to the fact that Iran now faces water scarcity problem.
The first vice president stressed the necessity of utilizing the world's experiences and achievements to overcome the country’s economy problems and said “there have been many achievements in the world, of course, not just in industrial countries, but developing countries as well, which have had good experiences and achievements that we can use to overcome our challenges.”
Jahangiri further described the weakness in policy making in Iran as the main reason for the lack of productivity, saying that “the national and international challenges facing the country's economy today have become widespread and interconnected. Therefore, such challenges cannot be dealt with in a one-dimensional way, and we cannot solve economic problems through purely economic measures.”
Iran's Economy Conference which opened today in Tehran by Jahangiri's speech focues on topics including: Providing a roadmap to eradicate poverty; assessing the status and prospects of financial markets; monopoly and competition in Iran’s economy, free market, privatization, business environment, and etc. The previous edition of the conference was held in 2014.
