Iranian political analyst:

Military equations in Syria have changed for a passive Saudi Arabia

The situation has changed and any movement should be based on talks between the government and opposition. Counter-terrorism and counter-Takfir confrontation are the priorities of the war and there is the possibility for a solution within this framework.
Military equations in Syria have changed for a passive Saudi Arabia
Hussein Rooyvaran, political expert on West Asia, in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) expressed his views on the recent victories of the Syrian army.
He was asked on the importance of the most recent gains by the Syrian army and the role of these achievements in the political issues of the country as well as those of the region to which he said,” The most important victory is in Aleppo and Idlib. The importance of these areas is that all military logistics of the opposite and Takfiri groups are located in this area and if these areas are blocked then there would be a certain change in the military equations of the war.”

This is the reason that breaking the siege on Nubol and Zahra and advancement towards Azaz can provide the grounds for closing the borders. The whole borderline of Syria with Turkey and Jordan are the logistic areas for the opposite front.

Euphrates is located in the northern borders and the eastern side of the river is dominated by the Kurds. Western side is partly dominated by the opposite front and partly by the government forces meaning that the government has finished freedom of Latakia and Idlib and Aleppo are the remaining parts. If the northern borders of these provinces are under the government control then there will be a change in the military equations.

The political expert was also asked on the reactions by Saudi Arabia and Turkey in regards to the victories and he noted,” Saudi Arabia and Turkey have taken a passive stance meaning that they are not able to manage the opposite front; hence, it is absolutely dependent on the innovation of that side and also the struggles by the Syrian army and its allies to change the equation to their benefit. A serious downfall of the opposite side is happening and we are witness to a different scene where on the one side, opposition front, cannot make a move due to its dependence on Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the US and Jordan and the other side has not managed the issue because of lack of motivations.

Saudi Arabia and Turkey are likely to brag on deployment of forces but this is mainly meant to calm down the opposition side which has lost all its hopes. If Saudi Arabia had enough forces, it would have saved its borders with Yemen; hence, Saudi Arabia has no force to deploy to Syria.”

Hussein Rouyvaran was also asked on the likelihood of Syria peace talks regarding the changes during the past two weeks to which he said,” Peace talks are based on the changes in the field. At the moment the talks are based on two resolutions 2253 and 3354. These two resolutions show that the situation has changed and any movement should be made based on the talks between the government and its oppositions and that the priority is confrontation with terrorism and Takfiri groups; therefore, there is the possibility for finding a solution. Although Saudi Arabia and its allies are trying to change the priorities they will fail in their efforts. Pursuit of ceasefire and sending aids for the people is an effort to prevent the change of equations in the battle front while resolutions 2253 and 2254 have distanced the battle field and talks; therefore, efforts to change the priorities will not succeed.
