War against ISIL is an issue for both Democrats, Republicans: Madsen

US investigative journalist Wayne Madsen says the authorization for the use of military force against the ISIL terrorist group is an issue for both Democrats and Republicans.
War against ISIL is an issue for both Democrats, Republicans: Madsen

“It’s going to be an issue for both the Democrats and Republicans, but not between the Democrats and Republicans,” he told Press TV on Saturday.

“It’s going to be an issue within each party because with Republicans we’re going to see people like John McCain and those Republicans who want to keep an interventionist US foreign policy,” Madsen added.

Republicans say the US “hasn’t done enough to help the Syrian rebels and therefore that gave rise the ISIS, they ignore the fact that it was the US support for the rebels that contribute to the formation of the ISIS,” the journalist said, using another acronym for the terrorist group.

Democrats on the other hand will grill Hillary Clinton, a potential candidate for president in 2016, for getting the US involved in the Syrian conflict in the first place.

US President Barack Obama has decided to seek a congressional authorization for the war against ISIL.

The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee said on Thursday that any authorization without ground troops would be dead on arrival in Congress.

“I will not support sending our military into harm’s way with their arms tied behind their backs,” said Rep. Howard McKeon, referring to Obama’s remarks that the US military will not wage ground combat.

This is while Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey said on Thursday that the Pentagon is now considering limited deployment of ground troops to fight alongside Iraqi forces against the terror network.
