Compiled by Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei,  the book entitled " The Encyclopedia of Islam and Iran: Dynamics of Culture and the Living Civilization " with scientific look trains the readers' eyes on the objectives and the hows of the formation of Islam- Iran culture and civilization.

The first season delineates, thereafter a formative preface, some principles like conceptual foundations and historical backgrounds (Chapter 1) and is followed by explanations on the era of Muslim conquests (Chapter II). The book, in its second season also briefs the readers on the ground based on which Islamic civilization has been formed.

In the third season, the author offers some details on the hows of flourishing science in Islamic civilization. This part, after a brief foreword, classifies scientific areas in Islamic civilization, discussing and studying the role of Muslims in the following areas:

Math (Chapter 1), Astronomy (Chapter 2), Physics and Mechanics (Chapter 3), Medicine Pharmacology, Veterinary, and Hospital Establishment (Chapter 4), Alchemy (Chapter 5), Philosophy (Chapter 6), Logic (Chapter 7), History and Historiography (Chapter 8), Geography (Chapter 9), Literature (Chapter 10), Linguistics (Chapter 11).

The fourth section of the work goes to Islamic sciences which is followed by the fifth season named  "Administrative and Social Organizations in Islamic civilization".
 
The book in its sixth section explains the status of art in Islamic civilization in term of the following topics:

Architecture, Painting, Calligraphy, Visual Arts, Taziyeh (passion play), Parde-Khani (kind of historical storytelling with illustrative paintings used as a backdrop for performance art) , Puppet show, Science of Music.

Ali Akbar Velayati in the book also deals with the influence of Islamic Civilization on Western Civilization.

The second volume of the Encyclopedia of Islam and Iran: Dynamics of Culture and the Living Civilization discuss about different scientific areas in the world of Islam from the stagnation to awakening era.

It draws attentions to the factors standing behind the recession of Islamic civilization from the 5th to the middle of the 9th century.

The book also reviews the rebirth of Islamic civilization from the 10th to 13th centuries of the Islamic calendar delineating the issue under the following titles:

Ottomans (first chapter), Tamerlane (the Taymurid) also known as Gurkhanian (Chapter 2), Safaviyeh (Chapter 3), Orientalism (Chapter Four), Secularism (Chapter 5), Human Rights and Guided Democracy (Chapter 6), and the Islamic world and globalization (seventh chapter)
 
The book briefs on the two hundred-year-old history of Islamic awakening and gives a nice picture of Islamic Awakening in Arab world, Iran, Turkey, the Indian subcontinent, Afghanistan, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and East Africa.

The work in the long run provides some details on leading figures, books and journals; political parties and institutions so as to help the readers study the book better.

Velayati compiled the book at the request of Documentary Center of Foreign Ministry and the book's first volume released by Foreign Ministry publication in 2007. The Encyclopedia of Islam and Iran: Dynamics of Culture and the Living Civilization has been translated as well into English language.
