'Iran is a safe island in turbulent ocean of terrorism'

Head of Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Tuesday that Iran is a safe island in the turbulent ocean of terrorism, urging plans for maintaining the situation.
Addressing a gathering of MPs-elect, he added that objectives behind creation of terrorist groups are dangerous for the Islamic world.

The fire the arrogant powers started in Muslim states has engulfed them, he said, noting that given recruitment of soldiers by terrorists from different countries, terrorism may spread in future.

Describing the officials' responsibility for maintaining the country's security as important, Rafsanjani said that one of the main bodies is Majlis which should be in coordination with the establishment, other branches of government and institutes, as it is well aware of regional developments and the country's situation.

Referring to the recent parliamentary elections and its results, Rafsanjani underlined the significance of moderation from the Iranian nation's perspective.

The people clearly made it known what they want through their choice from among various tastes, he said.

Election of 18 women as MPs indicates that their status have promoted after the Islamic Revolution, he said, noting that Iranian women have proved that they have the capacity for undertaking national responsibilities.

Recalling Iran's geographical, historic, religious, natural, civilizational and cultural characteristics, Rafsanjani said that Iran is the safest and most reliable country for investment in the world.

The senior cleric also said that the Islamic establishment has been based on Islamic teachings and Islamic Revolution is the most popular and Islamic system after the advent of Islam.

Negative performance of certain people should not be attributed to Islam and the Islamic establishment, he said.
