Sheikh Muhammad al-Munassa, member of the Shia Scholars Council of Bahrain, said the discriminations and inequities have historical roots and have been there for a long time.

These discriminations are prevalent in all areas, including the distribution of wealth, public education, etc, he stated.

Sheikh al-Munassa also slammed the ruling regime’s policy of torturing and prosecuting Shia Muslims in the tiny Persian Gulf country.
Bahrain has been the scene of unrest for more than four years now.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations on the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa family to relinquish power.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
