'Countering atheism, polytheism is a must'

"Polytheism and idol worship is active throughout the world as more than thirty percent of the world follow polytheistic religions," pointed out Ayatollah Arafi.

In a meeting with the directors of the Islamic Seminaries of Qom and Esfahan provinces, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi said that the Islamic Seminary is the source of the Islamic Revolution and it had and still has many enemies and rivals who stand against it.

The newly-appointed director of the Islamic Seminaries of Iran explained that in the current era, there are nearly 500 million adherents of atheism in the world. This movement has produced many great scientists and philosophers who work to strengthen it.

He added that polytheism and idol worship in the modern world is another competitor which is active throughout the world as more than thirty percent of the world follow polytheistic religions.

“Qom has a responsibility to stand against all these competitors because it has influence in Iran but we are not only responsible for Iran, but we should work for the whole world,” he said.

The Friday prayer leader said that the logic of the Ahlul-Bayt and the Islamic Revolution is friendship and fraternity with Sunnis but warned that we must be careful of the Takfiri and Wahhabi ideologies.

Ayatollah Arafi referred to the role of the Islamic Seminary in regard to social ills and said that the Seminary is an institution which has been derived from the people’s faith and its honour comes from the people and to the people and thus, seminarians must prepare themselves to treat the ills of society, especially in regard to the youth who feel marginalized and are targeted by the enemies.
