'Our people want resistance for thier own dignity'

Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought hailed Iranian nation for not sparing any attempt in advancing the set objectives of revolution.



Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki hailed Iranian nation for not sparing any attempt in advancing the set objectives of revolution stressing, "our people want resistance for their own dignity," reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Addressing a meeting held on the topic of "Khorramshahr, Week of Resistance", the grand Ayatollah beckoned to the liberation of the strategic port city of Khorramshahr from Iraqi forces under the former dictator Saddam Hussein. 

Referring to the event in which Iranian forces recaptured the southwestern city in a landmark operation code-named Beit ol-Moqaddas, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki underscored," the event and very first days of Iraq imposed war should be a lesson for next generations."

Iran launched the operation in April 1982 and liberated Khorramshahr on May 24 of the same year. In retaking the city, the Iranians captured some 19,000 troops from the Iraqi army. With this connection Ayatollah Araki lauded Iranian nation for their resistance and will in retaking the city and standing against Ba’thist forces.

Elsewhere in his remarks, President of Iran top unity center denounced severely Banisadr for betraying Iranian nations and the ideals of revolution holding him as one of hurdles in gaining momentum during Iraq imposed war.

Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought pointed out that Banisadr had been elected as president through peoples' vote.

"He deceive people," highlighted Ayatollah Araki and sternly warn people of occurrence of similar story demanding them to be more vigilant toward such schemes.

Ayatollah Araki counted the event as one of the main lessons in the combat history of the revolutionary Iranian nation stressing, "Such deception should not occur again."

To Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought, the liberation of Khorramshahr marks a turning point in the combat history of the revolutionary Iranian nation.

Some 6,000 Iraqi forces were also killed and thousands of others injured during the operation. The imposed war began in 1980, a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, with Iraq invading Iran with the support of major powers and their allies in the region.

During eight years of the war, Iraqi forces received economic, military and intelligence support from more than 20 countries led by the United States.
