Like previous years, the center organized the competition in the holy month of Ramadan.

The awarding ceremony was held Islamic Center of London on Friday. The participants had competed in the categories of recitation and memorization of the Quran at different levels, Taqrib News Agency (TNA) reported Iqna as saying.

The girls and boys’ contests were mounted separately and female and male Quran experts assessed their performance.

The two panels of judges announced 48 contestants as winners of the first to third ranks in different categories.

Addressing the ceremony, Hojat-ol-Islam Abdol Hossein Moezzi, who is in London to deliver speeches on the ten last nights of the holy month of Ramadan, thank the organizers and stressed the importance of teaching the Quran to children.

He also said that it is upon every Muslim to read the Quran as much they can.
During the holy month, the Islamic Center of England has held a number of other Quranic programs as well.
They include Tarteel recitation of one Juz (part) of the Quran every day before the Maghrib prayer.
Also, there have been Quranic courses for teenagers and the youth, Quran recitation sessions, and speeches delivered under the title of "Lessons from the Quran”.

The Islamic Centre of England-London (ICEL) was founded in December 1995, and opened officially in November 1998.
According to its website, the center, in common with other Islamic organizations in Europe, wishes to provide spiritual guidance for the Muslim community at large, and also wishes to cater for the social, cultural, educational and recreational needs of members of the community – especially women and the next generation.

The center’s other main objective manifests itself in its sincere effort to disseminate authentic knowledge about Islam and to provide non-Muslims with a better and clearer understanding of Islam.
