A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the killings on Saturday, saying the victims had been taken captive in an area near the town of Baghdadi in the western province of Anbar last week, media reports said.

The 32 people are said to have been shot dead in a village close to the Ain al-Asad airbase, which reportedly houses hundreds of US Marines.

Reports said that the bodies have been left in the area with the ISIL terrorists preventing their families from burying them.

The development comes as the terrorists purportedly hit the western town with shells, killing five civilians and injuring six others on Saturday.

ISIL started its campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014. The heavily-armed militants took control of the city of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the country’s Sunni Arab heartland.

The ISIL terrorists have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations, against all Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.

Iraqi soldiers, police units, Kurdish forces, Shia volunteers and Sunni tribesmen have recently managed to drive the terrorists out of some areas in Iraq.

ISIL controls parts of Syria and Iraq.
