Abdul-Hamid Dashti’s coalition will bring together international lawyers to defend the rights of victims of terrorist attacks blamed on Saudi Arabia. According to IRNA, the report was published by the Naba news website on Saturday.

Dashti, who will fund the legal action from his own pocket, said his goal is to show the true face of Islam to the whole world and the victims of Saudi Arabia’s terrorist acts.

His move follows the US Senate’s recent passing of a legislation that would allow the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks to take legal action against the government of Saudi Arabia.

The bill needs to be passed by the House of Representatives and approved by the administration of US President Barack Obama, who has vowed to veto it over security concerns.

The Saudis’ role in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, which left nearly 3,000 people dead, has recently been highlighted in the backdrop of partisan rows in the US political system.

Introduction of the bill has also increased pressure on Obama to release a 28-page congressional report -- kept secret so far -- that implicates the Saudi government in the attacks.
