'Using ethnic capacities during cultural week is a must'

President of Culture and Social Affairs in West Azerbaijan highlights the necessity of using ethnic capacities during cultural week.

 
President of Culture and Social Affairs in West Azerbaijan, Houshang Atapour in an exclusive interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) held the standing potentials in ethnical diversity in West Azarbayjan as one the main features of this province which can be used in various areas stressing, "Using this opportunity in cultural week is necessary."

Atapour beckoned to the ethnic and cultural diversity in West Azerbaijan Province pointing out, " due to ethnic, religious and cultural diversity in West Azerbaijan, the Province enjoys one-of-a-kind situation in the country."


"According to the cultural face, during cultural week slated to be mounted in Tehran, officials should draw attentions to this province's capacity," underlined the cultural official.

President of Culture and Social Affairs in West Azerbaijan went on to stress, "Currently we are trying to choose a proper slogan for the cultural week which is pertinent to the ethnic diversity in this province."


"Holding cultural week in Tehran can provide the ground for offering and introducing potentials of this province in different cultural, economic, tourism, scientific and art related areas," pointed out Houshang Atapour.

"Holding Province Cultural week in Tehran has been thought up by the Islamic council of Aroumiyeh and welcomed by governor," highlighted the cultural face stressing officials try their very utmost to mount this ceremony in its best way possible.


West Azerbaijan is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It is in the northwest of the country, bordering Turkey, Iraq and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and the provinces of East Azerbaijan, Zanjan and Kurdistan.

Overwheling majority of people are Muslims but also diversity of religions in the province has been a major factor throughout the history of the province.


The religions in the province are Shia and Sunni Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Yarasani. Both Azerbaijanis and Kurds follow Islam, the Azerbaijanis belonging mainly to Shias and the Kurds being of the Sunni branch, nonetheless there are also Sunni Azeris in some parts of the province.

Some of the most ancient Armenian churches in the world are located within West Azerbaijan Province, such as the St. Thaddeus Monastery and the Chapel of Dzordzor. The Jews in the province follow Judaism.

In this province, Islam (Shiite and Sunni) is the majority religion. However, there is also a large Assyrians Christian minority, who have historically lived on the west shore of Lake Urmia.


During cultural week, according to Houshang Atapour, "officials try to use the potentials and capacities of this province creatively showcasing them to public and officials in the country."

"The potentials of each city in West Azerbaijan province can be offered to citizens separately during the cultural week," Houshang Atapour underscored.
