First UN award for journalists in Iran

The United Nations in the Islamic Republic of Iran has announced the first award for the distinguished, outstanding, professional and objective journalistic coverage of the UN’s work in Iran.

Annoucing that the contest is dedicated to commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations, a UNIC-Tehran press release on Monday provided the following information about the Journalism Award for the Best Coverage of the UN Work in Iran:

Submission Guidelines:

From today to 15 September 2015, the UN Information Centre in Iran will be accepting media materials about the UN’s work in Iran from individual journalists (citizens of Iran) from any print, broadcast and online media outlet, operating in Iran.

The entries can be in any journalistic format, including print, radio, television, online, photo stories, etc.

Each entry can cover the period from 24 October 2012 to 15 September 2015 and published, aired or posted by the time of the submission. Journalists should submit their work in the form of a published article for print media, DVD, compact disc or link to the aired material with TV channel logo evidence, the screenshot or URL of the web site for electronic media, etc.

The entries may be in Persian or English.

Each journalist can submit as many entries as he/she want. The authors own the copyright to their works.

The awards will be given in five categories:

1. Media coverage of the UN work in Iran in print media
2. Media coverage of the UN work in Iran on television
3. Media coverage of the UN work in Iran on radio
4. Media coverage of the UN work in Iran in online media
5. Media coverage of the UN work in Iran by photography

Where to submit:

Materials may be submitted (deadline 15 September 2015) via email to UN Information Center Tehran by e-mail: unic.tehran@unic.org (subject line “UN Journalism Award”), regular post sent to the UNIC: P.O. Box: 15875 – 4557 with title “UN Journalism Award”, or delivered in person to the UNIC Office at UN Information Centre, Tehran, Iran 8, Shahrzad Blvd., Darrous, Tehran, Iran.

Please make sure the submitted photos are of good digital resolution (minimum 300 dpi), and the videos should be in one of the widely used formats (avi, mp4, mpg, wmv).

Award:
One winner in each category will receive specially envisaged Prize and Certificate from the UN Resident Coordinator in Iran, at an Award Ceremony during the celebration UN Day in Iran in October 2015.

Three top short-listed applicants in each category will receive special gifts and certificates as well. The best entries, including photos and multimedia stories, will be displayed during the ceremony.

Awards Committee:
The Awards Committee will consist of the members of the UN Communication Group, which represents UN Agencies, Funds and Programms based in Iran and well known media professionals. It is left up to the expertise of the Committee members to determine exactly what makes a work 'distinguished, outstanding, professional and objective.'
