‘US, Israel waging sectarian war in ME’

"Today, nothing is more dangerous than a sectarian war in the region and the US and Zionists have kindled this flame in the region," Ali Younesi, President Hassan Rouhani’s adviser on ethnic and religious minority affairs, said on Monday.

“Under the current circumstances, the Islamic Republic of Iran enjoys the highest degree of security but the enemies of Islam cannot tolerate this atmosphere and seek to create conflicts and divisions among various ethnic groups and denominations,” he added.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining national unity to thwart enemy plots.
Younesi also warned against enemies’ plans to take advantage of the ethnic and religious diversity and opportunities in Iran, saying, “This is while ethnic and cultural diversity is an opportunity and not a threat for our country.”

The presidential adviser further pointed to different rounds of negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 countries on Tehran’s nuclear program and said the Iranian nation demands an honorable final agreement.

He expressed hope that negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 would result in a decisive victory for the Islamic Republic.

Iran and the P5+1 - the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany – reached a mutual understanding on the parameters of a comprehensive agreement over Tehran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.

The two sides ended the latest round of talks at an expert-level in Vienna, Austria, on April 24. The three-day talks were aimed at drafting the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) based on the mutual understanding reached in Lausanne.
