Sheikh Mahmoud Al Sameed’ei, top Sunni Mufti from Iraq, attended the ninth summit of the supreme council of the Islamic Awakening World Forum in Baghdad slamming Takfiri (excommunication) of Muslims saying he who utters Shahada (testimonial for embracing Islam) is a Muslim and to kill him is forbidden, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He stressed importance of solidarity among Muslims and said,” God Almighty has called people to unite and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) has stressed necessity of avoiding Takfir.”

The cleric expressed regret over the pessimism of western countries on Islam and said,” Terrorist and Takfiri groups have tarnished the image of Islam with their heinous measures when Islam does not confirm any of their moves.”

He referred to Islam’s rejection of excommunicating each other and noted,” Sunni Muslims believe that affection and loyalty to Ahlul Bayt (AS) is a religious mandate and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) disqualifies he who distracts from the main path of Islam.”

Shiekh Al Sameed’ei also referred to respect of the Shia community for companions of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) saying,” According to these facts, Muslims should unite based on their numerous commonalities on monotheism and prophecy and resist against enemies with utmost brevity.”
