“Hollywood and Islamophobia” published

An old scenario in the west, Iranian thinkers have carried out a research leading to publication of a new book on Islamophobia in Hollywood movies.
“Hollywood and Islamophobia” published
“Hollywood and Islamophobia” is the title for the latest research conducted and edited by Sadeq Khoshhal, Hassan Beheshtipour, Mahmoud Abdullahi and Ahmad Kazemi reviewed and summarized by Mahmoud Torabi Aghdam, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The book is an effort in line with exploring the scenario of Islamophobia based on three movies  ”United 93”, “Zero Dark 30” and “The Hurt Locker” detailing Hollywood techniques for Islamophobia and the method hired for turning Islamic symbols and sanctities into terrorist codes.

Some sections in this book include: Islamophobic diplomacy of the west; aspects and features, Role of Hollywood in promotion of Islamophobia policy, Views of western critics of America’s cultural strategies on Islamophobia, analysis and Islamophobia tendencies of movies “United 93”, “Zero Dark 30” and also “The Hurt Locker”.

Part of the research reads: In the principle media system of the capitalist system in the US, forming a realistic and dramatic world, ideological beliefs are provided in a technical and content-based form and distortion of the facts happens quite easy since the subjective facts for the modern audience are brought mainly through images provided by the propaganda and not by the external real world.

Hollywood, at the beginning, cuts off symbols in an Islamic culture from their local ambiance during some dramatic adventures and through some intangible form techniques. Then when the audience is lost among the conflicts of the film, stirs his sympathy growing his apathy with the main characters eventually turning those sanctities into terrorist and inhuman symbols. Thus, produces its symbolic codes to tarnish the merciful image of Islam through tearing the reality apart in order to influence the cultural knowledge of the audience via a media representation of the facts.  This influence is especially more vivid in a western audience who has limited knowledge of Islam.

A Hollywood narration penetrates into the unconscious of the audience through dramatic challenges and provoking characters in different steps. Decoupage and mise en scene also serve the naturalization of the story in order to add to the credibility among the audience introducing the world of Islam as an “Other”, an enemy.

“Hollywood and Islamophobia” is the title for the latest joint effort by Iranian thinkers published by the research department of the world service in Iran’s state television.
