40 Palestinians nabbed in East al-Quds

Clashes have broken out between Palestinian protesters and Israeli security forces outside East al-Quds (Jerusalem) following the move by Israeli police to prevent worshipper from visiting the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Around 40 demonstrators were arrested after throwing rocks at the Israeli forces, who fired tear gas and used water cannons in response.

The skirmishes came ahead of the last Friday of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which is designated as the International Quds Day, during which millions of people around the world hold demonstrations to call for the liberation of Palestine and an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

Israeli police limited the age of Muslims allowed to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday to men over 50 due to concerns about protests over the deadly Israeli offensive against the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Earlier on Thursday, Israeli forces killed several Palestinians in the occupied West Bank during a deadly crackdown on a massive protest rally against the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Nearly 816 people have been killed and 5,200 others wounded since the Israeli military first launched its offensive on the Palestinian enclave on July 8.

The United Nations said in a report on July 23 that the ongoing Israeli assaults on the impoverished Gaza Strip have claimed the life of at least one Palestinian child every hour over the past couple of days.

Many demonstrations have so far been held across the world in support of the Palestinians living in the blockaded strip.
