Al Kalifa concerns over Shia economic independence

20 Jul 2016 - 12:05

Bahraini activist stressed that following Al Kalifa failure in sending Sheikh Isa Qassim on exile, it is in pursuit of detention of Shia leaders warning against the regime’s concerns over economic independence of the Shia community.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Morteza al Sendi, a leader of al Wefaq Movement, in an interview with RASA News Agency related on different aspects of recent detentions among Shia leaders and also money laundering allegations against prominent Shia scholar, Sheikh Isa Qassim, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He slammed Al Kalifa dictator regime for intensifications of anti-Shia campaign in Bahrain and said money laundering and other allegations against Sheikh Isa Qassim is meant to eliminate top popular leaders.

He highlighted the economic independence of the Shia community and noted,” Khums (one fifth, tax paid to Islamic state) provides Shia Muslims a kind of independence liberating them from economic demands to the government and this independence is quite costly for the government since they are in pursuit of restricting financial resources of the Shia; therefore, they are in pursuit of imposing pressure on the Shia under allegations of money laundering.”

He added,” Repeated invasions on Ayatollah Isa Qassim are anther message of the government for Shia community that it is committed to no red lines” noting,” As you note the opposition with the ruling system is among Shia and a blow to Sheikh Isa Qassim is in fact a blow to the body of revolution and revolutionary figures.”

According to the cleric Bahraini government has recently passed a bill banning any religious payment to jurisprudents, a law which was preplanned passed by the government.

He said,” These issues led Al Kalifa to carry out the second part of his scenario, Sheikh Isa Qassim trial and elimination of the religious leader from Bahrain’s political ambiance and this was when the people staged massive rallies and scholars repeated their supports for Bahrain Shia leaders.”

Following Al Kalifa measure to strip Sheikh Isa Qassim of citizenship, massive demonstrations were held in Bahrain and people held sit-in strikes in front of the prominent leader.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Morteza al Sendi warned,” The next part of the scenario is that the government accuses Shia leader to money laundering in a bid to try and detain the religious figure” adding,” On the other hand pro-government media, in an effort to provoke psychological war, propose daily scenarios to prevent any opposition as they have again accused Sheikh Isa Qassim of supporting terrorism and spread of violence.”

Bahraini figure touched upon dissolution of al Wefaq as the only official political movement in Bahrain and said,” The most important reason behind dissolution of al Wefaq was to silence the voice of revolution through an official tribune and US, UK, Saudi Arabia and supporters of Al Kalifa had frequently voiced their support to crackdown revolution in this country.”
