Huge turnout in Baghdad; second slap to US

the Iraqi people's demonstration is the second slap to the US in the last 20 days. The first one was Iran's missile attack on the US military base in Ain- al-Assad on January 8, and the demonstration was the second one.

Millions of Iraqis staged a demonstration in Baghdad, the capital on Friday January 24, calling for the US to leave their country.

There are a few points to note about this;
First, Friday demonstration proved that Iran is not the only country to respond to the assassination of resistance leaders, especially the assassination of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, the late commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, but the United States will face the consequences of its action across West Asia.

Second, these demonstrations show that the resistance groups in Iraq have high popular support. Only in the last 20 days, their power which originates from the people has been proven twice, the first time in the funeral of the Resistance Commanders and this time in support of the people calling for millions of anti-American demonstrations.

Third, the Iraqi people's demonstration is the second slap to the US in the last 20 days. The first one was Iran's missile attack on the US military base in Ain- al-Assad on January 8, and the demonstration was the second one.

Fourth, the impact of the slap is so severe for the United States since the media that covered the minor developments in Iraq in recent days(especially the news were against Iran and resistance groups) refused to cover the million-man demonstrations of the people and censored this great event.

Fifth, if some media and personalities tried to limit the recent demonstrations to the Shias only, the demonstrators were not just Shias but also Sunnis. Sheikh Khalid Abdul-Wahab al-Mulla, the head of the Iraqi Scholars Group (who won the International Peace Prize for 2012), tweeted," The US withdrawal from Iraq is a moral and religious obligation because its presence causes sedition and looting of wealth and corruption."

Sixth, the demonstrations by the Iraqi people showed that US President Donald Trump has no understanding of the developments in the West Asian region, especially the resistance groups. Trump regards all West Asian countries like Saudi Arabia, which he describes as "Milky Cow".

In this regard, on Friday Iraqis had placards reading, "Iraq is not Saudi Arabia."
