Taqrib News Agency (TNA)- The word civilization in Arabic language is derived from ‘civil’ meaning to settle and in English language equals establishment which translates to urbanization in a social ambiance.
In view of Allameh Mohammad Taqi Ja’fari (1923-1998), “Civilization is to promote discipline and synchronization in relations between people in a society which deny concussions and confusions to be substituted with rivalry for growth and transcendence so that the social life of the people and subgroups in that society will lead to burgeoning of constructive talents in it.”
However, late Imam Khomeini (RA) has divided civilization from culture, a proof that the late leader viewed two different concepts of the two,” The culture of a nation stands on top of its civilization and that is a culture in agreement with its civilization.”
New Islamic civilization relates to all political, cultural and economic aspects of society including all individual and social dimensions. Islamic civilization is a religious civilization whose axes are based in Islam. As a result, Islamic civilization includes all features of a spiritual civilization within the framework of Qur’anic teachings and lifestyle of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and its entities include religion, ethics, knowledge, legislation and religious principles.
Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution define Islamic civilization as an ambiance where man can grow in material and spiritual aspects to reach utmost levels for which he is basically created for, an honorable life for a lovely, mighty, determined, innovative life to construct the world. This is the translation for Islamic civilization and the objective of Islamic Republic of Iran. (remarks by the Supreme Leader on June 12th, 2004)
In general, Islamic civilization umbrellas all achievements by Muslims in different economic, cultural, religious, social, ethical, material and spiritual and industrial as well as innovative achievements since the beginning of Islam which expanded as vast area as China to Andalusia.
Qur’an and its principles sit in an important status in the Islamic civilization. In view of the Supreme Leader, formation of a new Islamic civilization should happen in regards to “shared principles of all Islamic denominations” and not a Shia Iran. The reason for importance of holy Qur’an is the inclusiveness of its laws and its efficiency in meeting all individual and social necessities of man. Also the late founder of Islamic Revolution recognized belief in concentration on Qur’anic laws as a pre-assumption of a unified Islamic nation and new Islamic civilization” (Imam Khomeini, Sahifa, volume 10, p.449)
The focal point in the Islamic civilization is belief in God Almighty without which promotion is impossible. Based on this belief, a lifestyle will be followed. Therefore, the key criterion in for a new Islamic civilization and society is monotheism which should be operated in all levels of a society and social, political, economic and cultural relations.
‘Knowledge’ and ‘ethics’ are among other criteria for the new Islamic civilization. Several recommendations by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) focus on promotion of knowledge among Muslims, a fact which has surprised researchers. In view of scholars and elites a future without knowledge is a dark age since the light on the way towards realization of Islamic civilization is scientific struggle. On the other hand though, the value of knowledge depends upon spiritual aspects and a science vain in spirituality is worthless. This is because knowledge without spirituality is what is challenging western civilization, a civilization which made several achievements due to its scientific complications though it was subject to great losses in its spiritual aspects.
