Beirut - Taqrib News Agency (TNA) - Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations, Ambassador Maged Abdel Fattah, confirmed that "The diplomatic work to join Palestine to the United Nations, is going on by 2 trakcs."
Maged Abdel Fattah said "the first path is to obtain a two-thirds of votes in the General Assembly of the United Nations, which will lead to the recognition of the State of Palestine on the borders 1967, which gives Palestine the right to participate in meetings of international organizations of the United Nations. The second track is by the Security Council to get the membership of the State of Palestine, not only the recognition."
Diplomatic efforts actively been made over the past months to ensure votes of 128 countries for the recognition of the State of Palestine in the General Assembly at the end of coming September, especially since there are already 123 countries that recognize Palestine, he added.
On the U.S. waving to use its veto in the Security Council against the accession of Palestine to the UN, Abdel-Fattah said "The U.S. veto if taken, would be a step backwards", noting that there are views that see the importance of taking a step to obtain recognition of the State of Palestine in the General Assembly, which would give her the opportunity to participate in meetings of international organizations of the United Nations, and the decision at the end, is a Palestinian decision".
He added that there will be meetings in the coming days of the "Monitoring Committee" and the "Committee on the Non-Aligned States" to coordinate for future steps.
