Al Kalifa detains over 20,000 over freedom of expression

Bahrain's major political party, al-Wefaq has sent its report on human rights violations in the Aran kingdom to the United Nations saying more than 20,000 people have been detained over freedom of speech.


Al-Wefaq has submitted its report to the UN Human Rights Committee regarding the trials and prosecutions in the Arab Kingdom calling on the international organization to follow on Manama's commitment to civil and political rights of its citizens, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Bahraini national Islamic society has referred to the numerous instances of violation of human rights, dismantling of opposite societies, prosecution of activists and isolation of political societies and their members in the country.
 
According to the report 20,017 people have been detained over freedom of expression by the Arab government.
 
The report also said al Kalifa authorities have used military courts and enforced disappearances as a means for frightening the opposition voices. Up to last February, the number of enforced disappearances has reached 439 people including 54 children and adolescents.
 
Al Wefaq has called on the United Nations to push Bahraini government for taking measures in line with protecting the civil and political rights of its citizens.
