On the phone call with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland

The Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ireland on Tuesday, while reviewing bilateral issues between the two countries, stressed the need to follow the development and expansion of bilateral relations, as well as the continuation of consultations with each other.

Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney had a telephone call with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir- Abdollahian on bilateral issues, international issues and the Vienna talks.

In a telephone interview, the Irish Foreign Minister described the escalation of international tensions as a result of the war in Ukraine as worrying.

Coveney praised the political initiatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the course of the talks and stressed the need to reach a good agreement that could meet the demands of Iran and all negotiating parties in Vienna.

The Irish Foreign Minister added that his country would spare no effort to reduce international tensions, and in particular to reach a nuclear agreement.

Amir-Abdollahian for his part highlighted the Ukraine crisis: "I have twice carried the message of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to my Russian counterpart. We oppose war and displacement of people in Ukraine, Yemen, Palestine, Afghanistan and other parts of the world, and believe that political solutions must be found to achieve lasting peace and security.”

Referring to the recent visit of the Irish Foreign Minister to Tehran and thanking him for his constructive efforts, the Foreign Minister said: "In addition to political initiatives, the Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly demonstrated the necessary will to reach a good, strong and lasting agreement in lifting sanctions in practice.”

Amir-Abdollahian added: "Now it is the American side that must take a realistic approach to correct Trump's illegal behavior and take a step towards political initiative, and we will continue the path of diplomacy to reach the final agreement, while paying attention to our red lines."
