Int’l Conference in Karbala Urges Creation of An Int’l Quran Association

Representatives of 16 countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, took part in the international event, which was organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Center of Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS).
According to Safa al-Silawi, an official with the center, the final statement was read out at the closing ceremony by Rafi al-Ameri, senior Iraqi qari and Quran expert and director of the National Quranic Sciences Center affiliated to Iraq’s Shias Awqaf Department.
He said the statement thanked the Dar-ol-Quran Center and the Astan for organizing the conference.
It also stressed the need for creation of an international Quran association to help implement what was approved in the conference, he noted.
Silawi added that the arbitration criteria for Quran competitions that were approved by the participants will greatly help Quran reciters, memorizers and experts because it will unify the criteria used in evaluating performances in national and international Quran contests.
He went on to say that other Muslim countries can host the next edition of the international conference in coordination with the Dar-ol-Quran Center.
The conference had kicked off at Al-Zahra (SA) University in Karbala on Monday.
Quranic figures Mehdi Qarasheikhlu, Gholam Reza Shahmiveh, Mohammad Rasoul Abaei, Shahriari Parhizgar, Mehdi Daqaqeleh and Seyed Abbas Anjam represented Iran in the international event.
