Sajjad Moraveji, director of BEHco said on Tuesday that Iran has become the fourth country developing the technology to produce kits for Omicron rapid test, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He said the new test can be used for the new variant of COVID-19 while it is likely to be used for other variants of the new coronavirus in future.
According to the Iranian expert the kit can detect the Omicron variant in 15 minutes before registration of the result for navigation of the infected person for further studies on spread of the virus to others.
Sajjad Moraveji hailed the Iranian researchers for production of rapid Omicron test and added that the capacity for production of the test is 200,000 kits per day.
First reported to World Health Organization (WHO) from South Africa in late November 2021, Omicron is known as a variant of SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19.
It has been detected in most states and territories as it is rapidly and easily spreading in comparison with previous variants.
