Weeks after Taliban took over Afghanistan and formed a new interim government; Tehran will be hosting a meeting of top diplomats from the neighboring country in a bid to contribute to developments in Kabul.

Rasoul Mousavi, director general of the south Asian affairs department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a post on his tweeter account on Monday referring to the considerable diplomatic activities to understand the developments in the neighboring country.
 
He noted that the future of Afghanistan lies in its regional cooperation with its neighbors and that Tehran will host a meeting of top Afghan officials to discuss the latest situation in the war-torn country.
 
An opening statement at the virtual summit held by Pakistan on September 8, the foreign ministers of the countries neighboring Afghanistan stressed an agreement for closer cooperation in a bid to avoid an impending humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan.
 
The statement called on the neighbors to follow a coordinated approach to cope with challenges including border security and preventing use of Afghan soil as a base for terrorism.
