Iowa City announces Eid al-Fitr as holiday for Muslim students
The decision has been made after three years of efforts by Muslim student Reem Kirja advocated for Eid al-Fitr to be added on school calendar marking the end of fasting month of Ramadan, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The school superintendent admitted the demand by Reem after she wrote a letter to raise awareness on the occasion which marks the end of holy month of Ramadan and support the Muslim students at school.

All students will spend the day off on Eid al-Fitr from next year which falls on May 3, 2022 due to the lunar Muslim calendar.

Some schools across the US have already admitted to add Muslim minority holidays to their list of religious and cultural holidays.
