9 Mar 2021 - 12:54

Pope Francis has ended his three-day trip to Iran defining the meeting with top Shia cleric Ayatollah Sistani as "good for my soul" on the way back to Rome.

Leader of Catholic Church ended his trip to Iraq on Tuesday to express satisfaction over meeting with senior Shia jurisprudent, Ayatollah Ali Sistani, a great, wise man, a man of God, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The 55-minute historical meeting between the two spiritual leaders was held on Saturday as the bureaus of both sides issued messages explaining the topics discussed from the issue of Palestine to interfaith dialogue.

The pontiff noted that he was quite conscious of risks when making the decision "freely, with an inner call."

Pope Francis met with top Shia cleric Ayatollah Sistani, held interfaith prayer in the ancient city of Ur, the birthplace of Prophet Abraham (PBUH), attended mass in front of an estimated 10,000 people at a sports stadium in the Iraqi Kurdish city of Erbil following his visits to Mosul and the Christian town of Qaraqosh.
