Mosque turns into coronavirus vaccine center

A mosque in the U.K has stepped forward to dish out jabs to locals and groups at risk, becoming the first mosque in the country to open as a Covid-19 vaccination center.
Mosque turns into coronavirus vaccine center
The al-Abbas Islamic Center in Balsall Heath, Birmingham, is expected to vaccinate up to 500 people a day, and over 350,000 have been inoculated so far.
"It will send a strong message to our Muslim brothers and sisters. We are doing this to say a big 'no' to fake news and a big 'yes' to the vaccine," said Sheikh Nuru Mohammed, the mosque’s imam, dispelling disinformation that the vaccine is forbidden in Islamic law, according to the BBC.
The hub has rolled out an online application process and prioritized vulnerable groups, including those over 70, health and care workers and those deemed as “extremely clinically vulnerable.”
"We want to benefit the community at large and are happy to provide our facilities. It is run by the NHS but with our support," the mosque’s trustee Haider Hudda told the Birmingham Mail.
False claims about the shots that the vaccine contains animal products such as pork gelatin have emerged on social media platforms, playing into the religious sensitivities of both Hindi and Muslim communities.
