Muslims from across Iraq have sent messages and postcards for their fellow Christians congratulating them on Christmas and the New Year 2021.

Groups of Iraqi volunteers have surprised the Christian families in Qaraqosh in northern part of the country with congratulatory messages and postcards sent from across Iraq, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Iraqi Muslims launched campaign to send 1,400 to Christian families across Qaraqosh, city which was demolished in 2014 attack by Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

Christian families have reportedly welcomed the initiation wishing that the surprise would happen again as a way for communication and more understanding between groups with the least knowledge of each other.

The cards were sent from across the country naming the capital Baghdad, Shia-inhibited city of Najaf, Sunni-inhibited city of Saladin and Kurdish-dominated Duhok in north.

According to the manager of the campaign, Nashwan Mohammad, the Christians were surprised beyond words since they would not expect a visitor let alone postcards from across the country.

The cards are pictured with special symbols from each province, a Christmas symbol besides the handwritten messages and autographs by people from different walks of life including pharmacists, fishmongers, shopkeepers and tailors.

Following evacuation of Daesh terrorists from Qaraqosh in 2016 the city has been under gradual reconstruction.

An estimated number of 1.5 million Christians living in Iraq before the US invasion of the country and topple of former dictator Saddam Hussein has shrinked to 400,000.
