The full text of speech by Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf is as follows:

At the outset, I would like to congratulate all of you and all the Muslims of the world on the felicitous birth anniversary of the Great Prophet of Islam, the Last of the Prophets and the Master of the Messengers. And while commemorating the great and precious occasion of the Islamic Unity Week, we salute and send our greetings to Muhammad and his Household. I solemnly hope that by recourse to the prophetic traditions of the Holy Messenger of Allah (peace be upon Him and His Household) and appeal to the great divine scripture, the Holy Quran, we manage to attain complete unity and empathy among members of the Islamic Ummah and to triumph over the numerous hurdles and challenges of today.

Dear brothers and sisters;
The Unity Week is a symbol of the solidarity of the Islamic Ummah. The unity of Muslims and the Islamic fraternity are of the fundamental and core principles of Islam. Recourse to the prophetic traditions and customs of the Messenger of Mercy, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (peace be upon Him and His Household), and the Noble Quran has always been the greatest source of unity in all Islamic eras. In effect, the trans-temporal and trans-spatial nature of the Hazrat’s mission is an auspicious promise that heralds the salvation of the humanity.
The mission of the Holy Prophet of Islam (peace be upon Him) opened a new chapter in human life, became a source of transformation and transition from the Age of Ignorance to the era of light and enlightenment, and completed the mission of the noble prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them). The Holy Quran, an undying miracle revealed unto the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), is another example in the lineage of the divine scriptures such as the Torah, the Bible and the Psalms and one of the main components that brings about unity within the Islamic Ummah, a Book which calls on everyone to turn to monotheism (that is tawhid) and unity and eschewal of differences, divisions and factionalism.
Undoubtedly enough, a practical labayk, that is accepting the invitation by the Holy Prophet, the Last of the Messengers (peace be upon him) will breed but unity, convergence and cohesion of the Islamic Ummah. Any unkindness and boldness towards the Noble Prophet of Islam and the heavenly scripture of the Holy Quran is an insult to all the prophets and divine scriptures, and any person or movement that commits this insolence proves that they have not been bestowed even a smattering understanding of religion, morality, spirituality and humanity.

Distinguished thinkers;
We believe; the commonalities of the Islamic Ummah are well so many inasmuch as they leave no excuse for division and conflict. A case in point is the Noble Quds, which retains the title ‘the first qibla of Muslims’ and ‘the third Holy Shrine of Islam’. It is one of the unifying components of the World of Islam, one which defines and measures the identity of and gives credibility to Palestine and the world Muslims.
The Palestinian Cause continues to be number one issue in the World of Islam; supporting the Palestinian Cause and the Noble Quds bond Muslims around the world. Be that as it may, we are now witnessing efforts in one corner of the World of Islam that have targeted the unity of Muslims and the Muslim Ummah. Distressing as it is, few rulers of Muslim countries have turned their backs on the unity of the World of Islam and normalised their relations with the fake, terrorist and usurper Zionist regime, and have thus become the wreakers of division within the Islamic Ummah. The rulers of these countries should know and be aware that normalisation of relations with the Zionist regime will not last long and the stain of this scarlet letter will go down in history under their name, the free-sprited and Muslim peoples of the world to never forget it.
Muslims of today's turbulent world are more than ever before in dire need for peace, In lieu of war, insecurity, conflict, strife, divergence and division, calm, security, prosperity, assistance, understanding, convergence, solidarity, and an accelerated motion towards "Revival of a New Islamic Civilisation"

Eminent scholars of the World of Islam,
This we have aptly learnt from you that if Islamic unity is properly perceived, its affirmation shall ensue. Further to the understanding of and obedience to the verses, hadiths, traditions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the Infallible Imams (peace be upon them) which instruct to unity, the attitude and behaviour of insightful and enlightened ulama and scholars in contemporary history testifies to their enlightening strive for strengthening unity. In order to dispel any shreds of doubt about the essence of unity, it would only suffice to leaf through the pages of the lives of those figures of prominence such as Seyyed Jamal al-Din Asadabadi, Seyyed Qutb, Sheikh Mohammad Abdah, Ayatollah Boroujerdi, Kashif-al-Ghatta, Sheikh Mohammed al-Ghazali, Muhammad Jawad Mughniyeh, Imam Musa al-Sadr, Sheikh Mahmoud Shaltout, Imam Khomeini (May Allah be content with him) and, last but not least, the unity-fostering tradition of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and his resonating call to unity.
Evident as it is, unity of opinion in the main and fundamental artery of Islam does not contradict differences of opinion between varying perspectives and even leads to ‘True Unity’. The Islamic Republic of Iran has pursued this principle to a nicety, although this important goal has been the target of raids by Takfiris and the likes of DAESH/ISIL and their like-minded fanatics.
Just as Takfiri extremists, especially in the last decade, have falsely and in the name of Islam been the cause of strife in the region, a meagre group among Muslims comprising both Sunnis and Shiites blow into the horn of schism without regard for the discretion and interests of Islam and Muslims; Both of these streams must be condemned. We are of the conviction that if the divisive hands in the World of Islam are cut short, more than 1.5 billion Muslims will not only not be at odds with one another, but will rather be supportive of each other.

Distinguished thinkers;
The Islamic Revolution and the late Imam Khomeini were preachers of unity right from the outset and Imam Khamenei, the sagacious leader of the Islamic Revolution, too considers the ‘Proximity of Religions and Islamic Unity’ to be a lasting strategy and not a pro tempore tactic. Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran, with steadfast belief and proudly, is showcasing an example for peaceful coexistence of and mutual understanding and respect between the followers of Islamic denominations. The peaceable and amiable cohabitation of the different religions and denominations in the Islamic Republic of Iran is proof that despite attempts by divisive and vindictive enterprises, unity can transcend the level of words and talk in a limited number of circles to ultimately turn into action and practice among the masses of people.

Ladies and gentlemen;
Today, the world is grappling with the ominous COVID-19. We all know only too well that the coronavirus crisis is not just a health issue, but a significant crisis with social, economic, political and cultural implications which has posed numerous challenges for countries and nations. The coronavirus is one of those predicaments where Muslims need collaboration and solidarity to effectively combat it. I trust that we can turn the coronavirus threat into an opportunity for co-operation and unity between and among Muslim societies. With the sympathetic spirit shown by its people, the Islamic Republic of Iran is triumphantly transitioning through this gruelling trial and has taken valuable and effective measures over the past eight months, and that in the face of the oppressive sanctions imposed by the rogue rulers of the United States.
By levying sanctions on medicine and not supporting nations amidst this crisis, the White House has in effect proved that even in times of collective crises, it minds its own interests and disregards the problems before other countries.
Further to that, the vainglorious US administration exhibited its failure in the management of the coronavirus crisis by registering more than 220,000 coronavirus deaths, becoming the world record-holder of the coronavirus death toll. Popular protests over economic hardship, including unemployment, and racism are clear signs that tell of systemic racism in the American society.

Respected thinkers, dear scholars;
In this 34th International Islamic Unity Conference, which we are now inaugurating, the following are expected:

  1. Emphasising the priority of liberating the Noble Quds, the first qibla of the Muslims of the world, and the establishment of a unified Palestinian state throughout this historic land with the Noble Quds as its capital. Needless to say, normalisation of relations between few Arab states and the Zionist regime, while counted as obvious betrayal to the Palestinian Cause, leaves no influence on the will of the Resistance and the genuine Palestinian people to claim their rights;

  1. Considering the pace, scope and steep slope of global developments, scholars, elites and thinkers of the Muslim world are expected to raise the all-out awareness of the young generation regarding the school of thought of the esteemed Islam and utilize all the potentials, including the cyberspace, to play their influential part, more than ever before, in fostering unity and solidarity among Muslims and among all other divine faiths, hence bringing about peace, security and welfare in Muslim countries; and

  1. It is worthwhile to take action against the ominous coronavirus and create a practical and efficient mechanism within the framework of the recommendations of this unifying conference, and thereby assist Islamic countries.
I would like to conclude by quoting the Supreme Leader as saying, I quote, ‘The Islamic Republic of Iran believes firmly in Islamic unity. Islamic unity means a sense of empathy among nations and cooperation among all the governments,’[1] end of quote.
I would like to thank again for your attendance in this (video) conference.

Peace be upon you, Allah’s Mercy and His Blessings
