“Imam Hussein, a great flag bearer in Muslim world”, Sunni cleric

Molavi Mohammad Ali Shahnavaz, Friday prayer leader of Sunni community in Khash, Sistan and Baluchistan Province, expressed condolences on the mourning month of Muharram, stressing the loyalty of Sunni community for Imam Hussein (AS), reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He called the Battle of Karbala and martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) as one of the most sorrowful moments in the history of Islam.

The cleric said,” The fact that Sunni Muslims do not believe in mourning ceremonies does not translate to disrespect for Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), his household or Imam Hussein (AS).”

Molavi Shahnavaz called the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), who sacrificed his life for fighting tyranny, is the most important and painful incidents in Muharram.”

He noted that the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions has left a great lesson of sacrifice, jihad and liberality for world people.”

Top Iranian Sunni scholar made the comments on the eve of the Muharram mourning ceremonies which mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala against the tyrant ruler of time Yazid ibn Muawiyah in 680 AD.
