Communal prayers in the Iranian capital of Tehran are all cancelled for a week as the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has spiked the number of infections and death cases.

Center for mosques’ affairs in a message to prayer leaders in Tehran has referred to an edict by National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus that announces the new restrictions for public gatherings including the communal prayers in the capital for the coming week, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
The city of Tehran has declared to be in “red” status as the number of infections in the megacity surged in what is called a second wave of the infection.
 
Mosques across the city of Tehran and counties in the province will remain open although the communal prayers are all called off for a span of one week.
 
Iran’s National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus has also announced restrictions on sport clubs, universities, schools, seminaries, public libraries, museums and praying halls among other public places.
 
With a record number of over 220 daily fatalities in early July, Iran has announced the total number of 13,211 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic infection in the country.
