Over 3,000 pilgrims evacuated from Saudi Arabia were quarantined in Turkey’s capital Ankara for 14 days upon their return on Mar. 15 as a part of the measures taken to curb the pandemic that originated in China’s Wuhan.
Pilgrims who tested positive were taken by ambulance to the hospital. However, it was announced that those without symptoms or had tested negative would remain in quarantine.
Additionally, the release of 2,200 pilgrims who are being quarantined in student dormitories in Turkey’s central Konya province was also deferred due to incomplete test results.
There are currently more than 723,000 coronavirus cases worldwide and over 34,000 deaths with more than 152,000 recoveries, according to U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.
Despite the severity of the virus, most people experience mild symptoms and recover.
