Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari, Iranian top cleric took office in a ceremony held in the capital Tehran to direct the prominent Islamic unity center in the country, World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought stressing brand building and modernization as the key demands of Islamic proximity status quo, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
The cleric attended the introduction ceremony held at the former US embassy in Tehran to hail the efforts of former secretary generals serving at the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and highlighted the frameworks previously announced by the Supreme Leader as the plans he would follow in future.
 
He said,” The principles counted by the Supreme Leader demand the societies to avoid aggression or clashes, unite against shared enemies, convergence in line with scientific, financial and political empowerment of the Muslim world and also establishment of new Islamic civilization.”
 
Hujjat-ul-Islam Shahriari hailed the massive capabilities across the world of Islam and called for turning the high capacity to a front against world arrogant powers.
 
The cleric noted that the next process would demand moving towards Islamic cooperation and unity against enemies who are in constant pursuit of dividing the Muslim world.
 
He counted convergence as the third axis based on which the world of Islam should be empowered and added that the proximity endeavors should turn into operational in the world arena.
 
The new secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought also defined proximity of denominations stressing that the objective would not translates to undermining the ideological stances in order to approach one another  but to maintain our beliefs meanwhile reaching a third stance, setting the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) as our role model.
 
He added a new architecture and reconstruction, as recommended by the Supreme Leader, is a mission and highlighted importance of circulating knowledge among different Islamic denominations.
 
“It is an era of media” said Hujjat-ul-Islam Shahriari calling for further attention on proximity media and also establishment of a think tank involving proximity elites as well as boosting ties with scholars across the world of Islam, particularly the Sunni figures.
 
In a recent decree issued by the Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic, professor of seminary and top official in judiciary, Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari has recently been appointed as the new secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of thought which had been established at the inspiration of Ayatollah Khamenei back in 1990.
