“The Israeli Occupation would suffer from the consequences of its foolish acts, which would backfire on the regime,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement on Sunday.

“The valiant resistance, spearheaded by al-Qassam Brigades, has enough experience how to deal with the enemy, and alter its equations ….”

Earlier
in the day, Israeli military aircraft had conducted a string of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian security officials said the aircraft struck two sites belonging to al-Qassam Brigades, the Hamas military wing, in northern Gaza, with another series of sorties at a Qassam site west of Gaza City.

There were no immediate reports of possible causalities or damage as a result of the Israeli air raids.

The Israeli army said in a statement that “fighter jets and attack helicopters struck a number of Hamas terror targets” in Gaza, as well as “a military post belonging to the Hamas naval force in the northern Gaza Strip.”

The statement added that the Tel Aviv regime “holds Hamas … responsible for events transpiring in the Gaza Strip and emanating from it. Hamas will bear the consequences
for actions against Israeli civilians.”

Late on Saturday night, Palestinian resistance fighters in Gaza allegedly launched three rockets into the southern part of the Israeli-occupied territories.

The Israeli military claimed that all three projectiles were intercepted by the so-called Iron Dome missile system.

It had earlier stated that two of the three rockets had been shot down.

Gaza has been under Israeli siege since June 2007, which has caused a decline in living standards.

Israel has also launched three major wars against the enclave since 2008, killing thousands of Gazans and shattering the territory’s already poor infrastructure.
